Despite the revel in a new presidency, the specter of an increased military conflict in Afghanistan certainly detracts from the optimism that we have felt recently. The Obama administration is considering double the U.S. force in Afghanistan to more than 60,000 troops within 18 months.

Mister Writer,
Very good blog.
I especially like the term
Armageducation.
Concerns for education always lead me to war and who is going to become the next fodder for profit and theft.
The undereducated entering the work force and finding nothing will always have a place to go.
No need for a draft. The unemployed will do.
I don't think it is just incompetence towards education that has got us this far but also an agenda to keep the masses in line and poor.
I say this because I have 2 grandchildren who within six years will reach the age of being old enough to 'die for their country.'
Education is the only way to avoid that.
I don't see a draft coming anytime soon. As the last comment said, the drastic unemployment rate will help with enlistments.
With Pakistan becoming the new front lines, building the forces in Afghanistan seems like the only option. Either way it's bad news.
