At the 1/27 board meeting, turnabout
happened as the superintendent's recommendations on cutting six VP's was vetoed and instead six directors/assistant directors within the administration were put on the potential cut list that and also Sue Berg, the superintendent's communication specialist. McHenry was instructed to return with a priority list of 6 cuts out of 16 positions by the Feb 10 meeting, although Berg's position was cut (at the end of this school year) separately with a 3/2 vote.
Read the CCT article HERE. Apparently the superintendent was not happy, judging by his comments. Was this retaliation? Or was this the start of what will be an ugly budget cutting process?
McHenry said: "It's really difficult to stay motivated to do a job when it just doesn't seem like the board is going to support what you're going to do," he said. "I just think that what is happening here is wrong. I do think that it's somewhat vindictive and retaliatory and I'm going to see what action I can take to address it in whatever form is appropriate."
You decide.Click the pic for the article. Or click HERE to relive the whole thing at MDUSD Blog.

I always admire those who are willing to go against the grain. It takes guts, strength and serious consideration to make these difficult decisions.
We all have to do much more with much less. Why should MDUSD's leadership be exempt from the budget crunch?
Me thinks the board should back off, rescind their recommendation and say they're sorry. McHenry threatened them, let's avoid him "taking action."
Ok back to serious land.. WTF is McHenry talking about ?? take action? retaliatory? huh??????? its a budget cutting process and its all ok until it affects you? PUHHHH LEASE!
McHenry is a typical bureaucrat. His soul reason to exist is to maintain his small kingdom and his status. So you can't take away any of his underlings without weakening his power structure. You can't delegate responsibilities to others not under his control. So he starts screaming about retaliation, what a fking ass. It is so obvious that McHogger is in this for himself. He should be the one that gets the big boot up the ying yang.
Now is the time to address these petty royal highnesses state wide. Just say no. Just say kick the jerks out.
If the "house of cards" is falling, let it fall. As a veteran who was here before we had many of the added directors and assistant directors and assistant superintendent of education- the previous superintendents seem to have managed fine with a higher student population no less. I thank the board for saving the VP's. The safety of our children is more important than another meeting held at the Dent Center to discuss whatever. Donuts anyone?
What happens if the 6 people on McHenry's list are white? Is that discrimination?
I am glad to see these long overdue cuts to admin. Most of the cuts have affected the students. I remember McHenry saying at the cuts meeting a couple of years ago he wanted to make an impression on the parents and make it hurt (not exact words) so that way parents would support that parcel tax.
Using threats backfired and the district looked worse to parents. We didn't see a poor district, we saw a mean one.
Sports need some cuts. After school programs are funded partially by the state, but there are also organizations like CYO that costs less than participating in the district's program.
even if the board was vindictive and retaliatory, which they are not...Who the &^# does McHenry think he is? He brings on massive tax fees and rings up legal fees without board approval, brings the district morale down to probably the lowest point ever....
maybe a little vindictiveness and retaliation is appropriate.
