Novato's district just eliminated sports and cut 59 teacher jobs. We see other districts closing down schools which our board estimated saves about $460,000 per site.

I appreciate your reporting Andre'. Awareness is important, although not pleasant. I'm a reader, and I support our schools. I know the children are our future!
Yes, it is gloomy out today, but I will still do my small part in the world. Harvesting oranges and lemons to feed the needy families. Most ARE children, I'm sure you are already aware.

It will be interesting to see if the Board is able to honor its commitment to keep the cuts as far from students and as far from school sites as possible.
Bloggers on several sites are asking why the latest list focuses on school-site personnel or music and sports programs (as opposed to additional cuts at the Dent Center).
I have heard it is very expensive to reopen a school site once it's closed. (The start-up costs to reverse some of the other proposed cuts may not be as much an issue as is the case with school closures.)
