WHERE DOES THE FOOL BEGIN AND WHERE DOES IT END?

"When that the monthe in which the world bigan
That highte March, whan God first maked man,
Was complet, and passed were also
Syn March bigan thritty dayes and two"

-Chaucer

Happy APRIL FOOL'S DAY.  Chaucer knew that the thirty second day of March was April 1. Try as I might to come up with a decent April Fool's joke, life seems to parody insanity right now which makes the April Fool just another day.

DSC09916Certainly it means you have only 14 days left to file those taxes - the state of the economy makes us all fools. Certainly Easter is around the corner where bunnies and colored eggs make for a foolish festivity, especially with hordes of children elbowing each other during the hunt. What fools!

Yesterday the county supervisors slashed the budget creating doubt whether misdemeanor crimes will even be prosecuted (the D.A.'s office was hit hard.) Now that is foolish indeed, especially in light of the recent crime waves due to the economy.

And then there is the education budget, dangling from the cliff edge on the promise of a parcel tax (Measure D) which can only work if the rest of the items on the May Special Election ballot pass as well (otherwise the state will have more cutting to do which will impact the MDUSD and other districts, negating the benefits of the parcel tax itself.)  How foolish can one get?

My favorite fool quote comes from Star Wars where Obi-Wan (Sir Alec Guinness) asks Han Solo "Who is the bigger fool; the fool or the fool who follows him?"

So happy FOOL day. We should all feel foolish for allowing life to get to this chaotic and unsteady state, for passing on the burdens of a mountain of debt to our children, grandchildren and beyond, and for allowing freedoms to be abused by those who circumvent the rules.

Now that's got to be the biggest joke of all.
