WHY WE SHOULD BE FUNDING LEARNING EVEN IF WE DO NOT FUND EDUCATION - LISTEN TO THIS LITTLE JAZZ BAND, WILL YA!
We learn by doing. At least that is what the true, unadulterated function of a good education is all about. Here, the Concord High School Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Courtney, play the Music and Market on May 28 at the Todos Santos Plaza. Click the video below the picture to hear what I mean.
Learning and education are not synonymous. Funding to education may be in the toilet; but the true measure of an intelligent society, let alone species, is to always push their best forward. We learn by doing. Let them do what they are doing so well. The rest are just details.
Sensational, aren't they? The thought that these children might not have such a grand musical education makes me shudder. Mr. Coartney is so very passionate about music, and he passes that love along to his students. My son is very lucky to have Mr. Coartney as his Stage Band teacher.
There are SIX high schools in MDUSD that have Instrumental Music Programs. Concord is just one of these. Others go places and win awards, as well. Northgate's Jazz Ensemble came in tenth IN THE STATE at the Monterey Festival a couple of months ago. All of these programs are worthy of support.
