AND NOW FOR SOMETHING TOTALLY SAPPY!

So a short time back a dove decided to nest on one of two straw planters that are attached to the front of my house. My family crept around trying not to scare it off. Mom was okay, but Dad got pissy each time we would come or go. He would fly off to a nearby power line and perch while chirping bird swear words at us.

Yesterday we noticed that at least one egg had hatched.  Here is a photo from that. What it does is remind me that while the world may be screwed up, while recession or ignorance may run rampant, nature has a way to remind you that we are merely the visitors on the planet. Is that sappy enough for you?

I guess I'm a member of your Sappy Squad. What a beautiful sight!

A sad update: This morning two blue jays attacked the birds, killed and took the baby, stole the second egg and got away. A bunch of other doves joined in to try and ward off the blue jays but it was already too late. Later the parent doves sat on a nearby phone line watching the now empty nest.

That is awful! We have a pair of very aggressive jays in our yard too. They have my cat so scared, he won't go in the back yard anymore.
