AT WHAT POINT IN TIME WERE THE KIDS ALLOWED TO RULE THE SCHOOL? More insanity in an educational setting - another reason to change

Don't think that this is isolated to Antioch - it is not. This is a pervasive problem that reaches every corner of society. We have allowed the children to become thugs and terrorists and there are no controls in place to stop them except those fewer and fewer parents who actually regulate their children.  antioch

The reality is that public school teaching is less about education and more about "classroom management". It's the reason why some of the best young educators quickly grow disillusioned and quit the profession.

I think that we reached the point where kids are allowed to rule the school very shortly after kids were allowed to rule the home.

Too many parents want to be their child's best friend, not the parent that sets the rules, guidelines, and parameters.

My wife teaches, and she has dealt with far too many parents of 11 and 12 year olds that say "I can't make Jimmy do his homework" and throw their hands up in the air. Or parents of 11 and 12 year old girls that see no problem with their pre-teen daughter getting manicures, pedicures, pierced navels, wearing low-cut tops and then wondering why their daughter is getting leering comments and looks from the boys, and demanding that it stop.

I believe the #1 problem with education is what goes on (or doesn't) in too many homes. Parents who take the time to care, that attend Back to School Night, Open House, parent-teacher conferences, that actually take 5 minutes and look at their homework, usually have kids that do well, in spite of the budget mess we are in. But that is hard work.

It's much easier to just buy them things and not set rules- our kids like us better that way, or so some parents believe.
