You can read the fantasy budget HERE. Fasten your seatbelts. It will be a bumpy ride.

I agree, we should recall ALL elected officials in Sacramento. Get the process started and I'll help get signatures. We should also get a referundum (sp?) on the next ballot that states: all elected officials in Sacramento will be considered unemployed at midnight June 30 and be denied salary, cars, credit cards, per diem and benefits until the beginning of the next month after a budget has been agreed upon if no budget is in place by midnight June 30. If no budget is in place by Sep 1 then all elected officials are automtically recalled and new elections are held with the proviso that no incumbents are allowed to run for office. I believe the people of 'Kalifornia' would pass this overwhelmingly. The big 5 that work IN PRIVATE on the budget should be tarred and feathered and run out of town! Why not get rid of the various commissions that are loaded with ex-politicos as chairs and pulling down $100K+ per annum? Why not review ALL state employment and eliminate the out-dated, underperforming, or unnecessary departments? Why not pay elected officials what they're really worth? (minimum wage comes to mind)
I am glad you are bringing up this mess. I think a lot of people are really angry. I wish Mr. Major would bring this up also. This has to be the most historically local disaster Claycord has ever faced--worse than murders, gangs, fires, etc. We can't let the state get away with it.
I see the state retirees will get $758 million into their account and the retired teachers will get $972 million to keep their benefits flowing. Why can't these people take less? All the rest of us are.
O.k. people, what are your solutions to the budget shortfall? Everytime I open the Contra Costa Times there is another article or letter to the editor proclaiming yet another program what absolutely cannot be cut. Yet, as we continute to raise taxes the productive people flee.
My idea is to return CA to being a business friendly state by reducing regulations, reducing taxes, and encouraging development such as offshore drilling, allowing the oil refineries to upgrade and expand, and allowing water to flow to the farmers in the central valley.
